Donald Saballus Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 7, 2025.
DONALD Saballus Donald Saballus died suddenly on Saturday, September 27th while at home enjoying one of his favorite activities, playing Chess. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend, Don possessed an unusual combination of artistic imagination and engineer's intuition. Beyond his successful career as a management consultant, he was a passionate sailor, and award-winning artist.

Don was born, raised and educated and spent his working life in the Chicago area. He completed a B.A. from DePaul University and an M.A. at the Illinois Institute of Technology. He worked as a human factors engineer on the design team for the Titan Missiles Control Center. He then dedicated himself to a successful career as a Management Consultant, spending the final two decades of his professional career in a senior role at the FAA.

For the past quarter century Don enjoyed retirement with his wife Jean. Together they journeyed hundreds of miles in fresh and salt waters on their beloved 38 ft. sailboat before settling first in Easton, Maryland and then Green Valley, Arizona.

Don is survived by his wife Jean, his two children, Tom and Donna and their spouses Lindasue and Gary, his two grandsons Philip and Jay (Ann), and his beautiful great granddaughter who he met and cherished in the last year of his life, as well as his brothers Ron and Jerry (Vikki) and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers tell your family you love them, hug your friends, thank your neighbors, be kind to strangers, and feed the birds.
