Donald Sampley, 86, of New Castle passed away Thursday, May 23, 2024 at his residence in New Castle. He was born May 3, 1938 in New Castle a son of the late James and Mamie Sampley.
Don married Rosalie (Abrell) Sampley on October 13, 1963. They made their home in the Springport area. Don enjoyed being outside mowing and gardening. He loved watching IU Basketball and attending his youngest son, Donnie's, college basketball games. Don enjoyed watching westerns and listening to music. He relished spending time with his family and taking short trips to Michigan and Tennessee. Don was a member of the Springport Christian Church.
Don joined the Marines in 1956 and was briefly stationed in Japan. He then worked at Dudley's for fifty-four years.
Don was a loving husband and father who loved to joke and laugh. He valued his longtime friendships with Jerry Gold and Ben Johnson until the end.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie (Abrell) Sampley; children, Troy (Tracy) Sampley of Knightstown, Teresa (Eric) Allen of New Castle, and Donnie (Kaleena) Sampley of Glascow, Scottland; grandchildren, Megan (Mike) Johnson, Justin (Mary) Pierce, Katlynn (Riley) Morgan, Kirstie (Jason) Curtis, Shelby (Jacob) Scruggs, Monica Sampley, Sebastian (Anastasia) Lockridge, Gavin (Madison) Lockridge, Dylan Sampley, and Ava Sampley; great-grandchildren, Andrew Johnson, Bradley Mulkey, Aurora Scruggs, Trinity Scruggs, Allison Scruggs, Trenton Scruggs, Kristopher Bowling, Camille Plummer, and Cade Curtis.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by, sisters, Rose Brumfield, Doris Vaught, Betty Hileman, Marilyn Pierce, Karen Rains; brothers, Larry Sampley, Jimmy Sampley and Gary Sampley.

Services will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 7 p.m. at Hinsey-Brown Funeral service in New Castle with Chaplin Brian Burk officiating. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date in Springport Cemetery. Indiana Patriot Guard will stand the flag line during the funeral. Military rites conducted by a contingent of the U.S. Marines, American Legion and the VFW. You may express condolences or share a memory of Don at www.hinsey -brown.com.
