Donald Lewis "Po Po" Schaeper passed away with his family by his side on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, in a local hospital at the age of 92. Donald was born April 10, 1931, in Robinson, Texas to Rose Sonnenburg and William Edward Schaeper, Sr. Visitation will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 20, 2023, with Funeral Services to follow at 11:00 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
Donald joined the United States Air Force in 1950 and proudly served his country for 4 years. On September 1, 1956, he married the love of his life, Vondel Arnold. They were married for 67 wonderful years. He became a Barber in 1953 and many will know him from the Lake Air Mall Barbershop in Waco, where he retired in 2007. Donald also worked at the United States Postal Service as well as General Dynamics.
A lifetime member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Robinson, he loved his church and his Lord. He enjoyed raising Greyhounds. His greatest life accomplishments were being Po Po to his grandkids, and most who knew him, as well as taking great pride in taking care of his family. Donald was a simple man who had a great knack of remembering people's names and aspects of their lives. He was loved by all who knew him.
Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers William Schaeper and Earl Dean Schaeper as well as his brother-in-law Billy Arnold.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Vondel Schaeper. His son, Michael Schaeper and wife Rhonda. Grand children Tristan Schaeper, Tanner Schaeper, Kohl Gueringer and wife Danielle. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Dixie Hammonds, Dorothy Schaeper and Rita Arnold.
Pallbearers will be Tristan Schaeper, Tanner Schaeper, Kohl Gueringer, Rick Hammonds, Steve Hammonds, and Kelvin Nessman.
