Donald F. Scott, 82, of Marion, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, in his home. Born on May 6, 1943, in Marion to Clyde and Sadie (Hayes) Scott, Don remained a lifelong resident of the community he loved.
A proud graduate of Marion High School, Don built a long and steady career with Perfection Bread Company, where he worked for 35 years before retiring in 1998. His dedication and work ethic were hallmarks of his professional life.
On September 27, 1998, Don married Phyllis Scott, with whom he shared many cherished years. He was a devoted husband and took great pride in his blended family. He is survived by his wife Phyllis; children, Sandy Thompson and John Scott; stepchildren, David Brandenburg and Stacey (Rob) Breck; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and special niece and friend, Denise Alter and her husband, Bill.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; stepdaughter Gayle Hickman; siblings, Gene Scott, Jim (Marilyn) Scott, Ed "Huck" (Paula) Scott, Ruth (Russell) Graff, and Carol (Charlie) Gosnell.
Known for his love of sports and competitive spirit, Don was an avid bowler who participated in the "All Night League," a passionate poker player and a dedicated golfer and multiple hole in one achiever. Don enjoyed playing with his golf buddies in the self acclaimed "Pigs League." A true sports enthusiast, he was a loyal fan of IU Basketball, Notre Dame Football, the Indiana Fever, and especially the Marion Giants Basketball team – holding season tickets for over four decades. He tried never to miss any sporting event his kids or grandkids were playing and often traveled to support his grandkids in California.
His friendships were deep-rooted and enduring – he was known as a loyal friend who valued time spent with those close to him. Above all else, Don treasured his family. He was a member of the Marion Elks Lodge where he made many friends. Don was recently saved as Tom Mansbarger played a role in guiding him towards a relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ.
