Donald Ray Shaffer Jr, 66, of Carroll, OH, passed away peacefully, Friday, March 31, 2023, at the Arbors of Delaware, in Delaware Ohio.
Donald was born November 3, 1956, in Columbus OH to Donald Ray and Clarene {Simpkins} Shaffer.
Growing up, Donald loved athletics, especially running track. After graduating from Bloom-Carroll High School in 1975, he studied music at Otterbein University from 1976-78 and then studied more music at Cedarville University through 1980. He joined the Army from 1983 to 85. He loved music and teaching and worked as a band director and music instructor for several schools and homeschool organizations for many years. He was especially talented playing brass instruments. He could restore broken band instruments for High School students. A Godly man, he communicated his faith to his family.
Donald will be deeply missed by his children Joshua Shaffer, Katie (Joshua) Frasure, Miriam Shaffer, Carmella Shaffer, and Martha (Cole) Perry and 9 grandchildren; brothers Bobby (Melinda) Shaffer, Kenneth (Stephanie) Shaffer, John (Lori) Shaffer, and his sister Maureen (Dan) Lopez.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call Monday April 3rd, from 10 to 11a.m. at Roberts Funeral Home-Mount Vernon Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Williams officiating. The burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, 7740 Grove Church Rd, Gambier OH, where military rites will be held. Online tributes may be made at www.RobertsFuneralHome.com
