Donald "Donnie Ray" Shields, 82, a resident of Seaford, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 with his family by his side.
Donnie Ray was the son of the late Ollie Riggins Shields and his late wife, Margaret Weston Shields. Both at the age of twenty-five, they welcomed their bouncing baby boy into this world on January 30, 1943 in Hampton, Virginia. Donnie Ray was married to the love of his life Nancy Marie Belvin on October 14, 1972 in York County. On June 15, 1975 they welcomed their pride and joy, their only child, their daughter Teresa Kay Shields. Donnie Ray retired from the Newport News Shipyard in 1996 with 36 years of service.
Donnie Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie and Margaret Shields; his paternal grandparents, William Edward Shields and his wife, Ida Riggins Shields; his maternal grandparents, William Norris Weston and his wife Matilda Rollins "Tilly" Weston. Many cousins and friends also preceded him in death.
Donnie Ray is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Nancy B. Shields of Seaford, Virginia; their daughter, Teresa Shields LaNeave, her husband Chris and their daughter Hollie LaNeave, all of Seaford, Virginia; his cousin, best friend and pastor the Rev. James "Bodie" Riggins. Many other cousins, co-workers and friends also survive.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 1, 2025 at Zion United Methodist Church, Seaford at 10 AM. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the sanctuary at 11 AM, with the Rev. James "Bodie" Riggins and Rev. Caleb Taylor officiating.
