Donald (Dick) Richard Sloan age 96, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2024 (Father's Day) at Healthwin Specialized Care in South Bend, IN. He was born on August 1, 1927, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to Donald M. Sloan and Ruth L. Kettering. Donald proudly served our country during World War II. He graduated from Mishawka High School and went on to a fulfilling career after the military at Bendix, where he worked until retirement. In addition to his career, Donald also owned and operated a restaurant in Mishawaka for several years.
Donald married Marilyn M. Key on June 22, 1949. Together, they raised three children: Eldest Son (D. Sloan), (Robert Lee Sloan) and (Sheila Jane Marvel). Later Donald married Rose Mary (Sally) Fisher, blending their families and adding four stepchildren. Later in life, Donald married Betty L. Helm on September 22, 2013. Donald was a devoted family man, survived by his Brother (Robert Sloan & Pat) their 3 children (Becky, Brian & Laura), his wife Betty, Stepson (Terry) and Donald's: Eldest Son (D. Sloan & Kathy), Daughter in Law (Cheryl Sloan) and (Sheila Jane & Dave Marvel). He is proud of his grandchildren, Michael Sloan, Samantha Jane Barfield (Robert Samuel), David Kyle Marvel and great-grandchildren B.L. Barfield, Twins: Adeline Rae Marvel, and Blakely Mae Marvel. He is predeceased by his Parents, stepdaughter (Linda) and son (Robert Lee Sloan).
Donald had many passions in life. He had a green thumb and took great pride in his gardening and immaculately cared-for lawn, cars and maintaining his home. Donald also had a fascination with coin collecting, sharing his knowledge and collection with his children and grandchildren. There will be no formal services at Donald's request. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Hospice Heart to Heart, St. Joseph Medical Center, and Healthwin specialized care for their care and support. In honor of Donald's son Robert Lee Sloan, donations may be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind, a cause that brought joy to Donald and pride in Robert's efforts raising guide dogs.
