Donald Griffin Speiden of Hilldale passed peacefully away to be with his Savior the Lord Jesus Christ on February 27th 2025 at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley after a long illness.
He was born on January 21, 1944 in Parkersburg, WV to Edgar F and Helen A. Speiden. Don was married 53 years to the loved of his life, Linda P. Goins Speiden. Don knew Linda was his one and only and asking to marry her on the third date. They raised two daughters, Donna L Palmore and Carrie N North with love and respect.
Don is also survived by Carrie's husband Jeffrey A North, their children Collin J and Gratia E North, Donna's children J Andrew Stone with wife Alize, and daughters Sofia and Luna; D Griffin Stone with wife Kayla and daughters Elizabeth, Alaina and Isabella; and Allison N Burdette. One brother Edgar Speiden and wife Jeanie of Silver Springs, MD are also surviving along with his siblings in heart, Joe and Sandy Goins, Butch and Sandra Honaker, Lin and Sue Goins, Jim and Becky Browder, Deborah and Mike Wallish and Robbie and Mary Beth Merritt.
Don grew up in Huntington WV and graduating Barboursville High school. During his youth, his love of the outdoors, animals and working with his hands bloomed. He was a truest husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son and friend. He protected and loved his family with the fierceness of a lion and love of a teddy bear. He taught everyone he met how to be a gentleman and to be someone to be depended on. He would move mountains to help anyone in need. To his family, he was the driver, the strong shoulder and fixer of things. His girls will forever remember his playfully ways of indoor snowball fights, wrestling, late night walks and chocolate pie for breakfast. To the community, Don's love was displayed in his service in the Air Force with a tour in Germany during Vietnam, an honest hard-working auto mechanic, an engineer on the Hinton Fire Department and proud member and president of the Dawns Sporting Club. He would drop everything to help anyone in need, but he was so humble that it didn't occur to him what a rare and special trait that was. Don meant more to everyone than he would ever know.
Memorial services will be a 2 PM on Monday, March 3, 2025 at Riverview Chapel in Hinton, WV with Pastor Butch Honaker officiating and special prayer by Austin Lilly. A time with family and friends will be from noon until time of services Monday at Riverview Chapel.
