John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.
Dr. Lois Marian Speiden, 85, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at her home in White Sulphur Springs, WV. She was born in Washington, D.C. to Edgar Speiden and Edith Marie Harper Speiden on February 4, 1940. Lois placed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age.
Lois graduated from Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, NJ in 1958, Wheaton College in 1962 with a degree in Psychology and an emphasis on Pre Med and then attended and graduated as a medical doctor from Temple University in 1966. She worked as a Radiologist in New Brunswick, New Jersey, at the Southern West Virginia Clinic in Beckley, WV and ran the radiology department at the Greenbrier Clinic in White Sulphur Springs, WV. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Fairlea for many years and enjoyed singing alto in the choir. During her retirement, she became a caring landlady for many people in White Sulphur Springs.
Some of her favorite things to do included reading, fixing up houses, and watching her favorite tv shows – Pit Bulls and Paroles and old westerns like The Rifleman and Gunsmoke. She was also an avid photographer and gardener, spending many hours photographing family events and the natural world, and tending her organic garden through the years. Lois loved horses and dogs and raised chickens. She also took great pleasure in making people laugh. She was always ready with a joke or a riddle. She had an amazing memory and loved talking about family history.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edgar Speiden, mother, Marie Speiden, and sister Norma E. S. Evans.
She is survived by her six nieces and nephews Debbie Day, Betsy West, William Evans Jr., David Evans, Paul Evans and Dan Evans along with their families including many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She tirelessly loved and supported her family and friends in the area; her wisdom and generosity will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Wallace and Wallace Memorial Chapel in White Sulphur Springs, WV. Visitation from 1-2 on the same day.
