Donald Timothy Stokes, 55, was born on February 10, 1968, in Laurinburg, North Carolina. On November 21, 2023, he went home to his Heavenly Father following a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Tim retired in 2020 after a twenty year career with Louisville Metro Police Department. He served many years as a night shift officer and sergeant and also spent time in Special Victims Unit and the Training Division. He volunteered as a Crisis Intervention Team instructor, a negotiator with LMPD's Hostage Negotiation Team, and a member of Louisville Police Pipes and Drums. He also enjoyed the privilege of representing LMPD at the 2016 Presidential Inauguration in Washington, DC. Throughout his career, he received numerous Life Saving Awards, Meritorious Unit Citations, Exceptional Merit Awards, and a Medal of Valor. He was also a familiar face at the Louisville Bats where he was part of the security team for 16 years and at University of Louisville basketball and football games where he worked for 8 years.
Tim had many loves outside of law enforcement as well, including his beloved New York Yankees, hiking the Appalachian Trail with his wife, and working outdoors. Following his retirement, he started his own hobby farm while learning the basics as a farmhand at Ashbourne Farms. He also enrolled at Kentucky School of Bluegrass and Traditional Music with a focus on the banjo and enjoyed playing for anyone who would listen.
Tim was preceded in death by his mother Mary Paul Stokes and is survived by his wife Mary, sister Jennifer, father Dr. Donald Stokes, son Brett, daughter Jessica Asay (Kenny), stepdaughter Katelynn Brown, stepson Austin Maloney, and grandchildren Aaron and Gracie Asay.
Memorial Service will be at 6:00pm on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Visitation will be held on 2:00pm-6:00pm on Thursday, November 30, 2023.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, please make donations to the Louisville Metro Police Foundation, Officer in Distress Fund (982 Eastern Parkway, Louisville, KY 40217).

Donald, I realize this is extremely belated, but I wanted to express my sympathy on the lost of your son, Tim. I understand your pain because I lost my oldest son in January of 2020 from a widow maker heart attack and my spouse just three weeks ago from renal failure. I know it is impossible to live with the loss of a child and a spouse. God bless you and your family. Roo

We met Tim when he attended the "Reel Recovery" retreat in May. We had the honor of giving him a ride to and from. We really enjoyed meeting him and getting to know him for that short period of time. Very sorry for the loss. He was a great person. I am sure he is deeply missed by his family and all that really knew him. Prayers and thoughts your way.... Larry & Cathy Weishaar
