STORMO, Donald Brice "Don"

Don passed away on February 12, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service and love for his family. Don was born on November 2, 1948, in Jackson, Mississippi. He and Margaret first met at the age of five and became childhood friends. In their sophomore year of high school, that friendship blossomed and deepened into a lifelong partnership. From an early age, Don possessed a deep curiosity about the world. He developed a lifelong love of reading that never faded. He was especially drawn to works on history, travel, science, nature, and humanity, always seeking a broader understanding of the world and its people. Additionally, Don was gifted musically. At Monticello High School, he played the clarinet in the school band, achieving the honor of first-chair. He went on to attend Mississippi State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and receiving many awards for his academic achievements. Don also served as the Vice President of his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon.

In 1970, Don married Margaret and began his professional career with IBM. In 1971, they welcomed their first son, Don Jr. Shortly thereafter, Don entered active duty in the United States Air Force, serving as a Captain with assignments in Guam, Thailand, Colorado, Texas, and North Dakota. He was proud to serve his country, and he was awarded the Bronze Star for his discipline and leadership.

After returning from military service in the mid-1970s, Don resumed his career with IBM, which led the family to relocate to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1979, where they built the foundation of their home and family life.

In 1981, Don and Margaret welcomed their second son, David.

Don remained with IBM until 1992, when he transitioned to Northwestern Mutual, where he took pride in mentoring young professionals in the insurance industry. Don retired from Northwestern Mutual, in 2019, after 27 years at the company.

Don was also committed to community service, serving as a United Way campaign leader, Cubmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, Little League coach, and President of the IBM Club. In his personal time, Don found joy in birdwatching, cheering on the Atlanta Braves, and passionately supporting Mississippi State athletics, especially the football team. A devoted fan of musical theater, he loved Broadway productions such as The Lion King, Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, and Les Misérables.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Don and JoAnn Stormo; and his siblings, Miriam and Joe.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Margaret Stormo; his sons, Don Jr. and David (Elza); his brother, Jim Stormo; his sisters-in-law, Angel Stormo and Brenda Stormo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, whom he loved dearly. He also cherished his time caring for his dog, Winston.

Above all, Don loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and mentor. His legacy of leadership and commitment to his family will endure for generations. Donald Brice Stormo will be dearly missed and forever remembered. A gathering to honor and celebrate Don will be held at the Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Marietta, GA, on February 20, 2026.
