Don is predeceased by his parents and his loving wife Shirley L. (Singleton) Strong as well as his eldest daughter April D. Strong and nephew James G. Strong. He is survived by his brother, James E. Strong and his wife Betty (Hays) of Jefferson, GA; his daughter Pearl G. Smith and husband Karl of Carlisle; his son Andrew C. Strong of Mechanicsburg; his two granddaughters, Ella L. Strong and Evelyn G. Smith, as well as his nephews Tom E. Strong and wife Kim of Jefferson, GA; Michael A. Strong and wife Julie of Cumming, GA.
After high school, Don joined the Army where he served as an MP. After the army he was introduced to the love of his life, Shirley, by his brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Betty. Don and Shirley were married on April 8th, 1967, until her death in 2000. He loved sports and loved supporting his children through softball, football, piano practice, and finally marching band (HS and College). He worked for Gannett Fleming for 42 years as a highway lighting designer. Upon his retirement, Don loved to travel to Florida every winter where he spent time walking the beaches and collecting seashells and then traveling to visit his brother, Jim and his family in Jefferson, GA. While home he enjoyed yardwork and collecting golf balls that he would find in his backyard thanks to the nearby golf course. This became good practice for his seashell collecting in Florida.
