Donald R. Wynn
Loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Donald Rex Wynn, age 90, passed away
following a brief illness at McLaren Bay Region Hospital on August 19, 2025. He was born on
March 7, 1935, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Rector and Irene (Coss) Wynn. Don was united in
marriage to the late Sharlene (Girard) Wynn on September 2, 1958.
Don proudly served in the United States Navy when called to active duty on March 3, 1958,
and honorably discharged on November 9, 1960. Following his service, he moved to Bay City,
Michigan, where he worked at Saginaw Steering Gear before starting his home building
business, Don Wynn Construction, and then finally working for the Bay City Housing
Commission from 1983 until his retirement in 2000.
Don was a member of Visitation and St. Mary's Churches and American Legion. He served
as President of the Bay County Home Builders Association in 1975. He loved bowling,
construction, basketball, puzzles, and was an avid University of Michigan fan proudly
wearing the maize and blue. His favorite activity was spending time with his family,
scratching off lottery tickets, morning coffee at McDonald's with his friends, and talking to
his neighbors (Pam, Tom, Seth, Angela, Brenda, and Ray).
Don's greatest pride was his family. Surviving are his children, Krystal (Jerry) Prahl, Brandon
(Rebecca) Wynn, his grandchildren, Taryn (Chase) Bell, Jensyn (TJ) Dubay, Megan (David)
Allen, his great-grandchildren, Cade Bell, David Allen Jr., Jackson Allen, and his favorite feline
companion to keep him company throughout the day, Marley.
Don is survived by his sister Joyce Record, his cousin Donna Owens, and many nieces and
nephews. In addition to his parents, Rector and Irene (Coss) Wynn, he was preceded in
death by his wife Sharlene (Girard) Wynn, sisters Norma Schlitt and Carole Wright.
Don will be remembered as a hardworking man who was a jokester at heart. His legacy will
continue through his family and many other lives that he touched.
Don's family would like to thank the ICU Staff and McLaren 6 West Staff for the special care
given to Don and his family during his brief stay, including the doctors, nurses, aides, and
dietary staff, especially Dr. Ahmad, Todd, Tyler, Chris, Heather, Kristen, MaryLou, Carlene,
and Aiden.
A celebration of life will take place from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 25, 2025, at the Gephart Funeral Home. Private inurnment will take place at a later date at Calvary Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.
