Donna Jean Brizendine

Donna Leckel Brizendine, age 75 passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at St. John's Ascension in Tulsa after being in a car accident in Porum, OK. She was born on September 11, 1949, in Spooner, Wisconsin. She is one of 4 siblings of Mr. James Leckel and Mrs. Leora Leckel. As a child she was a loving sister who loved animals and helping people. She attended high school at Plantation High School in Florida. Her passion for helping others would later lead her to become a nurse for the United States Military where she would eventually meet her soul-mate Thomas Brizendine while stationed in Ft. Hood Texas. She was kind, and compassionate to those that encountered her. She went on to have a daughter whom she tried to educate on similar ideas regarding compassion and love for others.
Donna, having experienced hardships of her own as a child, being at home at a young age, and then living with foster parents continued to live her life in service to others by helping those less fortunate, celebrating the service of other veterans and taking in cats and providing a home and love for them. She had a natural fervor for life and was very resilient and strong in her beliefs. She took pride in standing up for what she believed in and helping others. She was a woman of God and was always willing to share how he had helped her through the years as her faith continued to be tested, and her resolve continued to strengthen. Surviving bouts of cancer and trusting her faith and guidance from God she found the strength to continue living. Even in her later years, she continued to show loyalty and compassion as she once again became a nurse, tending to her most important patient, her husband. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Leora Leckel, her sister Debbie Mayland, and her brother, Jerome Leckel. She leaves behind her daughter Dawn Brizendine of Muskogee,OK her son-n-laws Tommy Brizendine of North Dakota, and Wolfgang Brizendine of Virginia. She leaves a legacy of grandchildren Raven and Melody Meyer whom she spoiled and loved intensely from Muskogee, OK.
Viewing for Donna Brizendine will take place on 5/19/2025 from 12pm-5pm, and 5/20/2025 from 9am-7pm.
Funeral Service will be Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. May 21, 2025 at Heavenly Hope Church. Pallbearers include Jonathan Meyer, Johnny Stout, Gilbert Vargas(Honorary) and Mark Breedlove. The burial will follow to Coleman Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
