Donna Dorenbush Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Oakcrest Funeral Services Algona on Jan. 29, 2026.
A funeral service for Donna will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2026 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakota. The service will be livestreamed on Oakcrest Funeral Services' Facebook page. Burial will be held in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Lakota. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. and continue until the time of the service at the church.

Donna Delania Dorenbush was born October 7, 1949 in Tulsa, Oklahoma; the daughter of J. Wallace Borden and Mildred Jeanette Linton. She was born and raised in Tulsa and graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1967. Following high school, Donna attended beauty school and later completed some college coursework in bookkeeping.

Donna was first united in marriage to Gary Saxton, and to this union one son, Marty, was born. She was widowed when Marty was 3 y.o. On November 23, 1975, Donna was united in marriage to Dwight Dorenbush at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakota. Together they were blessed with two additional children, Jill and Jeff, and made their home in Lakota. Dwight and Donna celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November 2025.

Throughout her life, Donna wore many hats. In her younger years, she worked in bookkeeping at a car dealership. She later became a farm wife, preparing and delivering meals during the busy spring and fall seasons. Donna was also an entrepreneur at heart; she made her own applique shirts and sold them at numerous craft shows. Passionate about everything she did, Donna found her greatest joy in being a stay-at-home mom.

Donna enjoyed playing cards and board games and was an avid poker player. She loved to shop, especially at garage sales and department stores, often buying clothes even when she still had many with tags left in her closet. Decorating for the holidays was another passion, Donna went all out no matter the occasion and will always be remembered for her festive spirit. She loved spending time at the lake, was a huge Elvis fan, loved her naps, and took great pride in caring for her family. Very family-oriented, Donna always had crafts planned for the kids.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, art, and flowers and was known for her incredible creativity. Donna was a wonderful cook who proudly shared her southern dishes with others. For a few years, she cooked at the bar in Lakota, and for 12 years she ran the concession stand at the go-kart track in Forest City. She also loved making cakes, especially character cakes, which she created not only for her family but for many in the community.

Donna died Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at her home in Lakota. She was 76.

She is survived by her husband, Dwight of Lakota; children, Marty (Karla) Saxton of Marshalltown, Jill (Dan) Moynihan of Olympia, WA, Jeff Dorenbush of Lacey, WA; grandchildren, Chase Saxton, Bridget (Jakob) Volpel, Lydia Saxton, Amy Moynihan, and Ella Moynihan. Donna is also survived by her siblings, Guy Borden of Glenpool, OK, Martha Sprenkle of Sierra Vista, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her father, Wallace Borden; mother, Mildred (Harold) Pennington; first husband, Gary, and his parents; parents-in-law, John and V. Aileen Dorenbush; three nieces; and her faithful companion, Sid.
