Donna Stonecliffe Hunsberger, 84, of Maynard, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025.
Born in Flint, Michigan, on June 15, 1941, Donna was the daughter of Robert and Irene Stonecliffe. She was raised with her older sister Mary, and younger brothers John and George. In 1963, she married Neville Hunsberger III in Buffalo, NY. They shared 39 loving and faithful years of marriage. Most of that time was spent in Fairport, New York raising their two children, Jason and Jessica. Neville passed away in 2002. After his passing, Donna remained close to her son and his family, following them to California, Texas, and Massachusetts. She never remarried, but her last two years were brightened by a supportive and loving partner, Marc Masse, and their cat.
A gifted visual artist, Donna was known for her sculpture and painting. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1964 from the University at Buffalo. Her work was exhibited in galleries in Rochester, New York; Nantucket, Massachusetts; and Sacramento, California, and is held in private collections across the United States, including Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Washington. Donna worked primarily in acrylic on canvas in an abstract expressionist style, favoring bold color, dramatic shapes, and strong contrasts. In later years she explored landscape-inspired work that married her love of color with nature themes.
Donna was a dedicated member of the Christian Science church. She became a member of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston in June 1962, and through the years served several branch churches - including almost 30 years at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Rochester, New York. At the time of her passing, she was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Concord, Massachusetts. She particularly loved serving in the Christian Science Reading Room, pouring her talents into making the space attractive and welcoming to visitors. Several of her poems and verified healings were published in The Christian Science Journal and Christian Science Sentinel. In 2000, she completed Christian Science nurses training at Tenacre Foundation in Princeton, New Jersey, and served at several Christian Science nursing facilities until 2015. She particularly loved organizing activities and outings for guests at these facilities.
Donna is survived by her children, Jason Hunsberger of
Acton, Massachusetts, and Jessica Saner of Austin, Texas. She has three grandchildren from Jason's marriage to Christy (Wills) Hunsberger: Hudson, Laurel, and Miriam Hunsberger. And a grandchild from Jessica Saner and Gerry Schroeder: Rex V. Schroeder. She is also survived by her brothers, John and George Stonecliffe. She was predeceased by her husband, Neville (2002), and by her sister, Mary Beard (2017).
Family and friends of Donna Hunsberger are invited to a special service to remember and celebrate her life. The service will include Scriptural readings and provide an opportunity to share remembrances. Selections of her art will also be on display.
All are welcome.
