Donna J. Johnson, 77 of Aledo, died Thursday, February 8, 2024, at OSF St. Anthony’s Hospital, Rockford, Illinois. Memorial services will be held on Monday, February 12th at 5:00 PM at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, Aledo. Visitation is Monday, prior to services beginning at 3:00 PM at the church. Memorials may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church or the Mercer County Jaycees. Speer Funeral Home, Aledo is assisting the family.
Donna Jane was born on January 5, 1947, in Aledo, Illinois to Donald “Keith” and Mary Jane (Baldwin) Clausen. She married Vernon Johnson on February 4, 1967, at the First Baptist Church in Rock Island, Illinois.
Donna attended Black Hawk College and Illinois State University pursuing her love of Art. She was a truly gifted artist and enjoyed painting and sketching. In later years she enjoyed watching TV, especially her stories and doing word finds. Donna cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Donna is survived by her husband, Vernon; mother, Mary Jane Krahl of Moline; daughters and sons-in-law: Jami & Scott Lilly, Lara & Jonathon Swanson all of Aledo and Steve Smet of Peoria; brothers and sister-in-law: Steve & Terry Clausen of Rock Island and Doug Clausen of Kankakee; and her grandchildren: Alec & Evan Lilly, Collin & Addisyn Smet and Weston, Macy & Evalynn Swanson. Donna was preceded in death by her father, and her daughter, Kelly Smet.
