Donna was a true friend. Always welcoming and kind. She was a great listener, and she remembered what you told her. She had a positive outlook on life and didn't let things get her down. She was wicked at scrabble and words with friends because of her excellent memory and her understanding of words. I could rarely beat her at words with friends. I loved all of her stories about her travels. She made the stories so real I could visualize what she was telling me. When she and Wayne were in Kenya, someone tried to sell her a baby. She had to think hard to be able to turn that offer down. She loved children. When they were traveling to Antartica, the sea was so rough that she rolled off of the bed and blocked Wayne in the bathroom of their cabin until she could get back on her feet. She saw polar bears when they were on an expedition north of the Arctic Circle. They bought a beautiful hand-woven rug when they visited Morocco. She had so many stories.
Donna loved children's book, and she often gave me copies of her favorites. She liked the humorous ones like The Wonkey Donkey. She always saved the children's literature section of the New York time to share with me. She loved to stay current on things. She wasn't one to be stuck in the past. She embraced life and continued to do so even as her health deteriorated.
She loved her family and friends. Even as her friends passed away, she stayed positive. She lived for visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She posted their artwork and photographs, and she always had stories about their latest growth spurts and development. I could go on and on. I will miss my good friend, Donna Johnson.
