Born January 12, 1948, in Booneville, she was the first of three children born to T.C. Mauney, Jr. and the late Juanita Anderson Mauney. Mrs. Daniel was a graduate of Pine Grove High School. Pursuing her career as an educator, she received her bachelor's degree from Delta State University, master's degree from the University of Mississippi, and education specialist degree from Mississippi State University.
She is survived by her husband of over eleven years, Louis "Freddy" Daniel of Saulsbury, TN. In addition, she is survived by her father, T.C. Mauney, Jr., of the Dry Creek community, one daughter: Lady Jayne Price (Hap) of Coldwater, one son: Clint Stroupe (Dawn) of Dumas, step-daughters: Amy Daniel of Collierville, TN and Rachel Cooper (Chris) of Oakland, TN, one step-son: Louis Daniel (Kalen) of Rossville, TN; one brother: Keith Mauney (Cindi) of Dry Creek; three granddaughters: Viktoria Davenport of Starkville, and Nora Beth & Georgia Claire Stroupe of Dumas; two grandsons: Ethan Davenport of Starkville and Madison Clint Stroupe, Jr. of Dumas; and one step-granddaughter: Cara Cooper of Oakland.
From childhood, Mrs. Daniel was deeply committed to her faith in God and her walk as a Christian. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Grand Junction, TN, and was always active in the work of the local congregations she attended throughout her life. She took part in those works at various times as a member of the choir, Bible class teacher, numerous committees, and any other activity where she could be of service in her local church. While faith was foremost in her areas of service, she also was involved in many local community and service groups, whether it be local garden clubs, teacher service organizations, and any other groups who she thought worked toward the betterment of our communities and reflected her Christian values. She had a charitable heart and was generous with both her time and resources.
In her Mississippi teaching career, Mrs. Daniel worked in the schools of Tippah, Prentiss, and Union counties for thirty years. She began her teaching career at Chalybeate School. The following year, she accepted her first Home Economics position at Jumpertown High School and later taught at both Falkner and Wheeler high schools. While Home Economics was her chosen field, due to changes and trends in school course offerings, she eventually transitioned to become a technology teacher as part of Mississippi's Tech Prep initiative at New Albany Middle School, until her retirement from Mississippi schools. She enjoyed her retirement but eventually had the opportunity to work at Middleton High School in Tennessee, and returned to teaching Home Economics related courses, until eventually retiring from the Tennessee school system. She was fully committed to her calling in public education and always gave her best to make sure her students obtained the knowledge and skills, which she knew could truly benefit them throughout their lives.
Mrs. Daniel will be remembered as a loving person who exuded life, vibrance, and optimism to both family and friends. In every area of life, she strove toward and largely succeeded in exemplifying the traits often thought of as those of a "true Southern lady," doing what was the right and proper thing, whether or not it was easy. Despite her diminutive stature, she held tight to her convictions and could be firm when it was needed, but quickly returned to her much more natural positive and upbeat nature. Faith, family, friends, and community were the foundations of her values, and she managed until the end to live her life as a reflection of those values. Despite her fight over many years with recurrent cancer and the toll both the disease and its treatments took on her body, she seldom complained and preferred to talk of the many positive and happy things in the world around her, rather than the challenges those who cared for her most knew she was privately bearing. These traits will always be foremost in her family's memories of her, and this is without question how she would want to be remembered.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Juanita Mauney, and brother, Gerald Clinton Mauney.
Serving as pallbearers will be Louis Daniel, Chris Cooper, and her nephews: Ben Brewer, Ben Gaillard, Garret Mauney, and Justin Colt Mauney.
