Mrs. Ann Black Gilbert Craig, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 6, 2025 in Memphis, TN.
Ann was born on January 9, 1943 in Memphis, TN. She was a graduate of Starkville High School and MUW. She received her Masters in Elementary Education from MSU. She was an educator most of her life teaching in Natchez and Vicksburg before settling in Canton. She taught at Canton Academy for 30 years. Once she retired from teaching, she ran her own Stationery business in Canton and Starkville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Emmett and Carolyn Black, her 1st husband, Floyd Kern "Flip" Gilbert, and sister, Susan Black James. She is survived by her husband, James "Jim" Craig of Starkville, MS, daughter, Sandy Gilbert Wheeler of Southaven, MS, stepson, Dan (Laurie) Craig of Starkville, MS, grandchildren, Austin Wheeler of Southaven, MS, Emily (Jonathan) Knight of Memphis, TN, Casey Wheeler of Southaven, MS, Keeton (Christopher) Ratzlaff of Nashville, TN and Anne Claire (Carter) Metz of Tuscaloosa, AL and 4 great-grandchildren, siblings, Russell (Emily) Black of Indianola, MS, Bay (Robbie) Black of Indianola, MS, Ern (Kay) Black of Starkville, MS, Betty (AJ) McGregor of Madison, MS and brother-in-law, Doug James of Starkville, MS.
Visitation will be 9:30am Monday, November 10, 2025 at Frist Baptist Church, Starkville, MS with the service following at 11:00am. Graveside services will be held at 3:00pm at Canton City Cemetery, Canton MS.
