Donna Nathe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Messinger Mortuaries- Indian School Mortuary on Jul. 14, 2025.
Donna M. Nathe, age 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 3, 2025, in Payson, Arizona. She was born on June 17, 1936, in Elmhurst, Illinois, the beloved daughter of the late D. Paul and Marie (Jack) Miller.
A devoted mother, tireless advocate, and lifelong learner, Donna dedicated her life to the service of others-especially children and women navigating difficult paths. After raising five children, she returned to school to earn her master's degree in psychology, a testament to her resilience, intellect, and unwavering belief in the power of change.
Donna spent over 20 years working at the DuPage County Youth Home, where she committed herself to supporting adolescents who had experienced turbulent beginnings. Her deep compassion and steady guidance helped countless young people find hope, healing, and direction. She believed fiercely in the dignity and potential of every child, and her work left a lasting mark on the lives she touched.
Later in life, Donna turned her focus toward empowering women, leading counseling groups and organizing transformative women's retreats. She fostered spaces of connection, healing, and growth for women who sought support, always offering her presence with warmth and humility.
Donna's spirit was grounded in nature. She found joy in camping under the stars, hiking the trails of Sedona, and even trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. At home, she loved sailing her boat at Blackwell Forest Preserve and tending to endless home improvement projects with enthusiasm and ingenuity. A voracious reader and generous friend, she was always eager to lend a book or a helping hand.
She is preceded in death by her siblings Jack Miller, William Miller, and Suzanne Miller. She is survived by her loving children: Michael Nathe (Melissa), Catherine Minster (Scott), Diane Nathe, Barbara Urbanik (Frank), and James Nathe (Kristina); and by her sister, Mary Miller. She was the proud grandmother of Christopher Nathe, Kyle Nathe, Madison Nathe, Mikey Nathe, Nathan Roeder, Joseph Urbanik, Luke Urbanik, Faith Urbanik, Scotty Minster, Samantha Kurkijan, and Amanda Minster. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Ava, Christopher, Thomas, Maxwell, Caitlyn, Vaughn, Evie, Anthony, and Henry.
Donna will be cremated in Payson, Arizona. Her legacy of strength, empathy, and service will live on in the lives of those she loved and those she helped along the way.

This is a picture of my sister, Donna, just before her trip to Peru. We had a lovely day at the beach as we visited and just enjoyed each other's company. Donna and I would sometimes joke about her being the oldest, and me the youngest. She was a treasure and I will miss her always.
