Bloomer Donna J. Nyhus, age 93, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Our House Memory Care in Chippewa Falls.
Donna was born on October 17, 1931, in New Auburn to Frank and Florence (Davis) Knipfer. She grew up on a farm near Round Lake in the town of Sampson. Donna attended Chain-O-Lake School until 2nd grade and finished grade school at Long Lake. She went to high school in New Auburn and moved to Cornell for her senior year, graduating valedictorian with the Class of 1949.
She married Richard “Dick” Nyhus on November 1, 1949. Donna worked for a short time at the Cornell Papermill, as a telephone operator in Madison for Verona “number please”, and as a credit manager for the Madison Anesthesiologist. In 1980, Donna and Dick moved back home and purchased the Nyhus Homestead in Eagle Point. She was a speaker for Christian Women's Clubs throughout the years and for many Women's Fellowship groups at different churches. She wrote several books and many magazine articles and devotionals. Donna and Dick had a "Caring and Sharing" ministry that helped many friends and neighbors trust in Christ and grow in the Lord. If anyone had a need, they were right there to share and care. Donna was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Cornell and the Bloomer Baptist Church where was affectionately known as “Granny Christian”.
Donna is survived by four children: Diane Alme, Ken (Cheryl) Nyhus, Debra (Dale) Wilcox, and Terri (Dennis) Webster; brothers: Frank Jr. (Marilyn) and John (Kay) Knipfer; grandchildren: Shane Alme, Paul Alme, Timothy Alme, Joel Alme, Michael Nyhus, Christopher (Tessa) Nyhus, Andrew (Chezlie) Hurley, John-Paul Hurley, McKinsey (Joshua) Lowenberg, Stephanie (Cory) Krizan, and Nickolas (Jamie) Webster; great-grandchildren: Lane, Blakely, Veronica, Zack, Henry, Max, Jaxson, Bennett, Addison, Cambria, Eliana, Alexis, Derrick, Zackary, Braden, Maddelyn, Kylie, Cameron, Chase and Kylynn; and one great-great-grandchild: Evelyn; numerous other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 75 years: Dick Nyhus who passed away on July 28, 2024; parents: Frank and Florence Knipfer; and brothers: Duane (Ann) Knipfer and Marvin Knipfer.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Bloomer Baptist Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Eagleton Cemetery. Olson Funeral Home and Cremation Center is assisting the family.
