Donzella Gass Obituary
Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donzella Pricilla Gass. Dee passed into the kingdom of heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, peacefully on August 22, 2025 in Winchester, Virginia. She was born on January 20, 1951 in New London, Ohio. She was one of five children. She grew up in Ohio before going to college at Kent State University where she would meet the love of her life, Lloyd Gass. Dee and Lloyd were on campus during the infamous 1970 Kent State shootings, which only bonded them further.
Dee and Lloyd moved from Ohio to Maryland, where she became an elementary school teacher in Harford County, Maryland, and taught for 38 and 1/2 years. She had fond memories of her time teaching at William Paca Old Post Road Elementary and Fountain Green Elementary. After retirement from Harford County Public Schools, Dee still had the teaching bug. She subbed for Anne Arundel County Public Schools, then worked in Washington, D.C. as a paraprofessional. She always had the best interests of her students at heart and would fight for each one of her kids. She was always teaching life lessons!
After retiring from teaching, she continued her love of hospitality by working for Six Flags America, the State of Maryland Tourism Authority, and most recently, the Walt Disney Company at Walt Disney World in Florida. Dee was a people person through and through! She loved the companionship of others all the time! She enjoyed all things Disney, including her many trips to Walt Disney World and Disney Cruises with her husband, kids, and grandkids. She wanted everyone to have a "Magical Day."
Keeping the family nucleus together meant everything to Dee. She would always say, "no matter what, family sticks together through thick and thin. Family is all you got." Dee was a huge supporter of her children and grandchildren. She would attend swim meets, soccer games, football games, dance recitals, and everything in between. She was always there for her kids and her grandkids! If any of her kids needed her, she was right there at the drop of a hat. It did not matter the time of day or where they were, she was always there for them. She loved family gatherings where she was able to experience the warmth of family togetherness. Christmas and Thanksgiving were her favorite holidays!
She is preceded in death by her parents Donald and Ruth Moman and her siblings Harold Thompson, Toby Thompson, and Marilyn Yates. Dee is survived by her sister Jennie Graves, her loving husband of 52 years, Lloyd Gass, her sons Kevin and Kraig Gass, her daughter in-law Krista Gass, her daughter Kristin Leonard, her son in-law Kyle Leonard, and her daughter Kaitlin Gass. Dee is survived by her three grandkids Kelsey Gass (19), Drew Gass (17), and Olivia Leonard (5).
As per her request, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Blue Ridge Hospice. (give.blueridgecare.org/campaign/706674/donate)
