Dora M. Etheridge passed away peacefully at her residence on the morning of Saturday, July 13, 2024. She was born on July 5, 1939, in Natchez, Mississippi. Dora was the daughter of the late Justin and Edna McCurley Marquez.
In 1961, she married her husband, William T. Etheridge. Dora then graduated from Mississippi State College for Women with a bachelor's degree in library science in 1962. She worked as a Librarian from 1962 to 1966 and remained an avid reader for the rest of her life. Dora later stayed at home raising her two sons, Bill and Mark, who both went on to become successful family men.
With a passion for art, Dora was artistic and gardened for nearly her entire life. She won many awards for her flower arrangements and eventually became a Master Flower Show Judge; Dora also taught others the skills required to become a Master Gardener. Aside from flowers and gardening, Dora also enjoyed working on stained glass and painting in various mediums; She was especially proud when her watercolor paintings were displayed and purchased. Dora enjoyed all types of art, including fiber arts which eventually bloomed into a passion and love for quilting.
Involved in her community, Dora started a women's stock investment club. She also loved playing tennis and cards with her friends. Dora lived a full life and even traveled to Europe alone at times.
In addition to her parents, Dora was preceded in death by her son, Mark Edgar Etheridge.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, William T. Etheridge, Sr.; son, William T. Etheridge, Jr. (Debra); five grandchildren; and brother, Justin Marquez (Linda).
A memorial gathering for Dora's family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Dora will be laid to rest privately.
