Doran Neil Lorimer died May 22, 2025, at the Rawlins County Health center in Atwood, KS at the age of 94. He was born on August 26, 1930, in Rawlins County Township of Celia to Dewey and Laura Lorimer. He was the fourth child born to the couple. He was raised on the family farm near Beardsley, in Rawlins County. He attended school in Beardsley through 8th grade.
Doran moved to Colorado after marrying his first wife, Frona Reynolds. While there he worked several jobs including furniture manufacturing, brick layer and mining. Two daughters were born while living in Colorado, Lavonna and then Joan a year later. After a few years the family moved to Trenton, NE where he began farming. Two years later the family moved to town in Trenton. A year and a half later the family moved to the farm he had grown up on as his parents retired and moved to town. He divorced his first wife and moved to Atwood. Doran met his second wife Jane Jolliffe and bought a house in St. Francis. They divorced after several years, and he remained in the house until he married for the third time. He married his third wife Mary Ann Howland and bought a house in Atwood. He remained in the house until his death.
Doran began working as an auto mechanic while living in Trenton and continued throughout the time he spent farming. He worked for Jensen’s in Atwood and Zimbelman’s in St. Francis switching back and forth between the two businesses. He spent a few years working for his brother Roland at Macfee Oil in Atwood. He then went to work for Yost in St. Francis working on farm equipment in the field before finally retiring.
Survivors include a daughter Lavonna Lorimer of Lawrence, KS; granddaughter Zaiba and her husband Mike Young and great granddaughter Zara of Denton, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Laura Lorimer; sisters, Betty Grout, Ruth Vrbas and Leta Fox; brothers, William and Roland Lorimer; daughter Joan Ahmed and his wives, Frona, Jane and Mary Ann.
A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2025, at the First Christian Church, Atwood. Memorials may be made to Ducks Unlimited and sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby, KS 67701. For information or condolences visit baalmannmortuary.com
