Alva Mae (Bretton) Horn, 76, of Colby, died Friday, August 15, 2025. She was born on August 28, 1948, in Norton, KS, and was the beloved daughter of Gerald and Helen (McDonald) Bretton. The youngest of six children- four boys and two girls- Alva grew up surrounded by family and love.

She graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1966, the same year she married the love of her life, Dick Horn. Together, they built a life filled with devotion and adventure, raising three children: Kim (Kent) Moss, Kevin (Nikki) Horn, and Kelby Horn. Their journey took them across Kansas and Colorado, always united as a family.

Alva dedicated over 30 years to serving others in hospitals and nursing homes, offering care, comfort, and compassion to the elderly. Her gentle spirit and unwavering commitment touched countless lives.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, her children and their spouses, five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and their spouses, numerous great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Alva’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

She will be deeply missed, remembered for her kindness, strength, and the warmth she brought to each person she met.

A celebration of Alva’s life will be held on her birthday, Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 5-7:00 p.m. at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby.
