Doree Bernice Meyers Harrold
March 12, 1954 – October 19, 2025
Doree Bernice Meyers Harrold passed peacefully on October 19, 2025, surrounded by love and prayer.
Raised in Endicott, New York, she was the daughter of the late Harry Lyman and Claire Scarlett Meyers. She is survived by her brother, Craig Meyers, and his three children; her two grandsons, Ethan and Andrew Thomas; her sister in Christ, Rita; and her beloved niece, Allison. She was preceded in death by her son, Jason, who passed away in December 2011.
A meaningful influence in Doree's early life was her great-aunt, Zilpha Aylesworth Bowers, a devoted teacher and mentor who passed in 1993 and helped shape Doree's love of learning, service, and independence.
At the age of 18, Doree proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, where she served for more than two decades, rising to the rank of Yeoman First Class (YN1). Her favorite duty station was Fleet Combat Training Center Atlantic at Dam Neck, Virginia Beach, and she also served at Naval Air Station Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, and with the Naval Air Reserve unit in Santa Clara, California.
During her military career, Doree received numerous awards and commendations, including the Navy Achievement Medal (3), Good Conduct Medal (4), Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal (2), National Defense Service Medal (2), and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal (2). She was transferred to the Fleet Reserve on January 1, 2001, marking the culmination of a lifetime of dedication, service, and patriotism.
In addition to her military accomplishments, Doree earned an associate degree in applied science in administrative management studies and later completed her bachelor's degree in Christian leadership. She was also ordained as a minister through Destiny Ministries in Florida.
Her faith in the Lord guided every chapter of her life. Doree was deeply grateful for her close friends, their faithful prayers, and the compassionate care of the VA Hospice Unit and AseraCare Hospice in her final days.
Throughout her life, Doree valued her independence, enjoyed peaceful moments of reflection, and was known to be unbeatable at Scrabble - a game she played with wit, humor, and heart.
Thanksgiving was one of Doree's most cherished holiday traditions. She loved visiting family and friends in Erie, savoring homemade dishes - especially turkey (always the dark meat), cranberry sauce, and dressing - and the familiar comfort of friendship and gratitude that filled each gathering.
As Thanksgiving approaches, take a moment to remember Doree - raise a glass, share a story, or offer a quiet prayer of gratitude in her honor.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
- 2 Timothy 4:7
A private service will be held at a later date.
