With hearts full of love and gratitude, we honor the life and legacy of Doreen Eugenie Campbell, who peacefully entered eternal rest on November 15, 2025. Born to the late Ena Beckford and Nathan Campbell in the serene district of Riverside, Parish of Hanover, Jamaica, Doreen's life was a radiant tapestry woven with grace, devotion, and quiet strength until the age of 93.
Affectionately known as "Sister Pearl" by her siblings, Doreen was the soul of her family. Her presence was a source of comfort, her wisdom a guiding light, and her love a constant thread that bound generations together.
Her mother Ina later married the late Louis Robinson affectional known as "Poppa" as she affectionately called him raised Doreen and her siblings. At the tender age of 19, following the passing of her beloved mother, Doreen assumed the role of caregiver with unwavering resolve. She nurtured her siblings with compassion and courage, becoming the heartbeat of the household.
A gifted seamstress, Doreen possessed an extraordinary talent for creating beauty with her hands. She never relied on patterns; instead, she sewed by memory and intuition, crafting garments that carried the essence of her love. From her own wedding dress to the cherished outfits of family, friends, and neighbors, each stitch was a testament to her artistry and care.
Doreen's lifelong pursuit of knowledge allowed her to complete Kendall Primary School and Xavier College in Jamaica, where she studied shorthand and clerical skills. Her training in shorthand and clerical skills provided a strong foundation for her later work in corporate America.
After giving birth to her firstborn daughter Monica, also known as "Gloria" and a source of immeasurable joy. Doreen met her husband Basil Garvey in Lucea, Hanover, Jamaica. Together, they raised their four children: Wayne, Barrington, and Maureen Garvey with devotion and care.
In the late 1960s, Doreen courageously migrated to New York, later settling in Hartford, Connecticut. There, she continued to be a pillar of strength for her family, helping them transition to a new life in the United States. She dedicated many years of service to Connecticut General Life Insurance in the Combined Services Division, Group Pension Administration.
Doreen's life was anchored in her deep and abiding faith. A devoted member of Grace Tabernacle Church in Hartford, she found solace and purpose in her relationship with God. Whether singing hymns, reading scripture, or sitting in quiet reflection, her spiritual walk was a beacon of peace and inspiration to all who knew her. Her pride in ministry was her service as Sunday School teacher in addition to utilizing her culinary skills to serve her church and the community. Dorreen understood her calling as the Lord instructed her to evangelize the lost to win souls to Christ.
She is lovingly remembered by her devoted siblings: Isis James of Bloomfield, CT; Glasford Robinson of Miami, FL; Sheila Williams of Bloomfield, CT; Louis Robinson of East Hartford, CT; and Geraldine Bennett of Bloomfield, CT.She leaves behind her beloved children: Monica Campbell of Yonkers, NY; Wayne Garvey of Manchester, CT; Barrington Garvey of Bloomfield, CT; and Maureen Garvey of Joppatowne, MD.
Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Angela Foreshaw Rouse and her husband Trevis Rouse of Blue Bell, PA; and Stacey Polk and her husband Maurice Polk of Owings Mills, MD. She is also survived by six treasured great-grandchildren: Amber and Aaron Rouse; Jordan, Madeline, Maurice Jr., and Journie Marie Polk. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, including Dale Williams of Berlin, CT, and Steven Williams of West Hartford, CT and many beloved cousins.
