Doreen Jennifer (Lizdas) Jacius, 48, of East Granby, CT, adored mother, sister, daughter, auntie and friend to all, died unexpectedly at home on Sunday, August 28, 2022.
Born November 16, 1973 and raised in East Granby, she was the beautiful daughter of Susan (Szarek) and Daniel Lizdas. In addition to her mother, Doreen is survived by her two daughters, Sarah and Amanda, older brother Daniel J. Lizdas (Allison Lizdas), younger sister Pamela Lizdas Howard (Troy Howard), nephew Matteus and nieces Ellie and Kalinda.
Doreen graduated from East Granby High School and received a Bachelor s of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Connecticut. Doreen s friendly smile, generosity and devotion to her community touched the lives of so many people. She had an ambition to help others and did so with her graceful style of encouragement and positivity, raising others up to better versions of themselves. Words barely convey the magnitude of her impact on those she loved and served.
Doreen was a devoted mother. She was most proud of her two precious daughters, Sarah and Amanda. Even in midst of life s expected and unexpected hurdles, Doreen met every challenge with a smile, courage and her quiet strength. Her daughters were the focus of her life, creating experiences and making lasting memories with them. Whether it was on beaches, on Broadway or in the mountains, Doreen lived life to the fullest with her family.
Doreen worked at the East Granby Public Library for over 6 years, serving as the Library Director for the past 4 years. She served the town of East Granby with pride and dedication. She was passionate about making the East Granby Library a place where everyone was welcome, creating with her staff and Board, a safe and warm place for all to come with no expectation of anything in return. Everyone she interacted with was treated with kindness and respect.
Doreen was loved by so many and she took every opportunity to show those around her how much she cared for and loved them deeply in creative ways. Taken from us too soon, her loss leaves a tremendous void in the lives of her family, friends and community. Though she may be gone from us physically, because she shared her love and light so generously and freely, her light will always shine bright in our hearts and minds. She has left footprints on our hearts and we will never, ever be the same.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 5-7PM at the Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Ave, Windsor. A Funeral service and Celebration of Doreen's Life will take place Friday, September 2, 2022 at 7PM at the Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Ave, Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the GoFundMe that has been set up for her daughters. Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home of Granby has care of the arrangements. A beautiful person, inside and out. Our family was honored to have been a small part of her shining light. She will be missed and remembered in equal measure. In these sad circumstances, take comfort on the immeasurable impact she had and on the quiet strength she bestowed on Sarah and Amanda---her true treasures.

Doreen was truly one of the nicest, most beautiful (inside and out) people that I have ever met. From high school until very recently, when I saw her, she was always smiling, and always had a kind word to say to me.

To her family: I am so very sorry for your loss. There are no words. Only the good die young, and rest assured, now, you will always have an angel by your side. Xoxo.
