Dorett Jarrett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Windsor Funeral Home on Nov. 15, 2024.
Dorett Merline Jarrett, age 69, a cherished resident of Hartford, Connecticut and a dedicated teacher at the Hartford Public High School, passed away following a medical emergency while at school, despite the prompt and compassionate efforts of school staff and emergency responders. Her passing was due to complications from an underlying cardiac condition.
Dorett was born and raised in Somerton, St. James, Jamaica.
In her earlier years, Dorett was one of the Presidents of the Somerton Youth Club and also an advocate for social improvement in her community. She attended the Somerton All Age School and then went on to the Montego Bay High School for Girls. After high school, she attended the Church Teacher's College in Mandeville, Jamaica, where she obtained her Teacher's Certificate in 1981, after completing the Teacher Preparation Program. She taught at the Cornwall College High School for Boys before emigrating to US to further her studies.
She was the third eldest of six children born to Dahlia Sharpe and Clinton Jarrett. Dorett will forever be remembered by her beloved children Bizu Irving and Abdou Irving, her sisters- Malgeritta, Ethma, Lisa, Hillary; brothers- Dwayne, Paul; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless other friends whom were blessed to know her.
Dorett's heart belonged to her children. She loved traveling, photography, Arts and crafts, listening to different genres of music, dancing, baking, gardening and having fun with family and friends. She was always engaged in cultural events and activities. Her love for all things Jamaica, bright colors and flowers were also widely known.
Dorett was considered the family historian, the bridge or connector who always kept in contact with immediate, extended family and friends. She touched the lives of many people with her smile, passion for life, effervescence, laughter, quick wit, kindness and her selflessness in service to others and their continual improvement. She maintained a sense of humor, independence, pride and tenacity. She never gave up and never stopped trying all the way to the end.
The memorial gathering will be on Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 10:30-11:00 with The Celebration of Life Service to follow at 11:00 am at The Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Rd., Windsor, CT 06095
