Victor J. Ellison, or Vic, as some may know him, was born on May 9, 1961, in
Hartford, Connecticut, to the late George E. Ellison and Alice L. Champion-Ellison. From birth, he shared a special and unbreakable bond with his late twin brother, Vincent Ellison. Their connection was rooted in admiration, loyalty, and unconditional love. Though life's journey carried them along different paths at times, their spiritual bond remained consistent and eternal.
Victor was a man whose presence could light up any room. He possessed a vibrant, joyful spirit and embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved to dance, not just physically, but wholeheartedly. When Victor danced, it was a celebration of life itself. His laughter was contagious, his energy uplifting, and his ability to make others feel valued was a gift many will always cherish. Family gatherings and celebrations were never the same without his unforgettable moves and warm presence.
A true expression of Victor's love was found in his cooking. He had a passion for preparing meals that brought people together. He studied cooking shows, perfected his recipes, and took pride in serving food made with care. If there was a grill nearby, Victor was sure to be at it, making certain everyone else was fed before serving himself. For him, cooking was more than nourishment, it was an act of love.
Victor dedicated 21 years of service to the City of Hartford Public Works, where he became known for his outstanding customer service and genuine kindness. He left lasting impressions on colleagues and community members alike. His generosity knew no bounds. He was the type of person who would give his last to help someone in need. Whether family, friends, or strangers, Victor believed that even the smallest act of kindness could make the greatest difference.
Wild Westerns and martial arts cinema were among Victor's favorites. He often joked that even Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris couldn't defeat him in a karate battle. With confidence and imagination, Victor would choreograph moves so convincingly that you would believe he had trained alongside the world's top martial artists.
Yet beyond his love for action and adventure on screen, Victor found deep peace in life's quieter moments. He enjoyed painting, allowing his creativity to flow in calm reflection. Victor enjoyed walking throughout his neighborhood, taking in the sights and sounds around him. Those walks were moments of clarity and appreciation for the simple blessings of life.
Above all else, Victor was a unique father. His children were his pride, his purpose, and his greatest joy. He shared a meaningful parenting journey with Janet Mitchell, the mother of his children. Together, they built a foundation with dedication and commitment for their children. Though life's circumstances led the family to different states and new beginnings, Victor remained dedicated.
He encouraged his children to pursue their dreams, to live with integrity, and to treat others with compassion. His love was constant, his support unwavering, and the lessons he instilled will continue to guide them throughout their lives. In addition to his constant words of positivity, he often ended conversations with a witty catchphrase that perfectly captured who he was, "P-Funk it." Rooted in the music he loved, a vibrant blend of soul and rock, it was more than just a phrase, it was a philosophy! A template for blending minds, much like the music itself, free flowing and forever morphing. That's who he was, unique, unapologetic, and free!
Though Victor departed from this earthly life on February 19th 2026, at the age of 64, his spirit continues to live on in every shared meal, every family gathering, every burst of laughter, and every dance floor filled with joy. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Victor leaves to celebrate his life, his beloved children, Tylon Patterson, Tashonda Govan, Victoria Ellison, Rayshawn Ellison, and Janet Ellison; his grandchildren, Zy'Aire Wilkins, Taivonne Patterson, Tylehjah Patterson, Tylon Patterson, Jr., and Jada Patterson; his siblings, Carol Copeland, Charlotte Carter, Annette Fleary, Maria "Lucy" Cox, Patricia Teal, Brenda Rose and her husband Buck, Shirlene Watkins, Alvin Ellison and his wife Lynda, Olivia Johnson, Melinda Jackson and her husband Winston, and George Tiggett; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
