Frederick Bannock Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Windsor Funeral Home on Feb. 25, 2026.
Frederick Winthrop Bannock, 85, of Windsor and Waterville Valley, NH, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Hartford Hospital. Born in Rockville, CT on December 23, 1940, son of the late James Ernest and Grace Winthrop (Lightbourne) Bannock, he was raised in East Windsor and attended Warehouse Point Grammar School and Broad Brook Middle School, and was a graduate of East Windsor High School, Class of 1959.

After high school, Fred enlisted in the US Air Force and served on active duty for four years and as a reservist for two years at Otis Air Force Base in Massachusetts before his honorable discharge as an Airman 2nd Class. While in the Air Force, Fred trained as an airplane mechanic and started what would turn into a 60-year career in aerospace engineering. Fred returned to school after his discharge at Kennedy-Western University in Idaho where he majored in mechanical engineering and earned his bachelor's degree.

Fred started his career at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford and later took a position at United Nuclear Corporation in Montville. While at United Nuclear, Fred met the love of his life, Rosana Talmadge and the couple started dating and were married on October 14, 1977 in New London. After United Nuclear closed, Fred and Rosana moved to Windsor and Fred took a position at Windsor Manufacturing as an engineer.

Most recently, Fred had worked for many years as a quality control manager at Jet Industries Inc. in Agawam, MA. Fred returned to work many times after his retirement as a consultant and he loved spending time with his coworkers and working with young engineers, sharing his years of experience.

After moving to Windsor, Fred and Rosana started a family and Fred was very involved in all of his two son's sports and activities while they were growing up in Windsor. He coached, refereed, and served on the board of Windsor Youth Hockey for years and was awarded the Doer Award for his many contributions. In the Spring, Fred was active in Windsor Little League serving as a coach for his son's teams. He later joined the Exchange Club of Windsor where he was an active member for many years and generously hosted countless holiday parties for the club with his wife Rosana. Fred was a longtime parishioner of St. Damien of Molokai Parish-St. Joseph Church in the Poquonock section of Windsor.

A true "do it yourselfer" Fred loved taking on any home project both indoors and out. He enjoyed tending to the landscaping around his home, snowplowing with his friends in the neighborhood and relaxing with family and friends in his yard. He and Rosana made many lifelong friends while living in Windsor including Kim Grunert and Mark Giaccone, and Betsy and Pete "Mr. Pete" Lepak.

In his spare time, Fred and Rosana loved traveling and always looked forward to family vacations both domestically and abroad including many memorable trips to Disney World and the Caribbean, as well as countless cruises with family and friends. After raising their sons, Fred and Rosana bought a home in Waterville Valley, NH and later became New Hampshire residents. Fred loved sitting on the front porch at his home and talking with his neighbors, golfing at the Waterville Valley Golf Course, and he served as vice president and president of the Village Condominiums Board in Waterville Valley. He enjoyed many Captain and Cokes with his close friends Stephanie and Steve Larkin and Betsy and Pete Lepak who also spent their summers in Waterville Valley.

In recent years, Fred loved spending time with his sons and their families including his four grandchildren. He never missed his grandchildren's games and loved hosting holidays and family get-togethers.

In addition to his loving wife Rosana, he leaves two sons, Brandon Bannock and his wife Celeste of Cape Elizabeth, ME and Jason Bannock and his wife Jennifer of Glastonbury; four grandchildren whom he cherished, Arthur "Archie" and Everett Bannock of Cape Elizabeth, ME and Olivia and Charlie Bannock of Glastonbury; a sister, Marilyn Bannock of Brunswick, OH; his brother-in-law, Wayne Talmadge and his wife Truda of Granby; his niece Lindsey Burrell and her husband Ryan of Suffield and their sons Reed and Trent ;and his dog and faithful companion, Braxton. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by four siblings, Ernest Bannock, Phillip Bannock, Patricia Bannock, and James Ernest Bannock, Jr.

His family will receive friends on Saturday, February 28, 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m., at St. Joseph Church, 1747 Poquonock Ave., Windsor. Burial will be private.
