Frank Janton Obituary
Frank M. Janton Jr.
Frank M. Janton Jr., born January 26, 1944, in Rockville, Connecticut, was raised there and proudly called it his hometown throughout his life. The son of the late Frank and Mary (Lally) Janton Sr., he embraced his Irish and Polish heritage and carried deep pride in his community.
A dedicated and skilled trade professional with an unwavering work ethic, Frank owned and operated his own plumbing and heating company. In his later years, he maintained fairways at ERCC, combining his strong work ethic with his love of the outdoors.
Frank served proudly as a U.S. Air Force veteran, working as an Air Traffic Controller in radar and control tower operations. His service included assignments in TX, MS, AR, MA, Vietnam, and Thailand. He carried his distinguished military service with quiet pride.
A 1962 graduate of Rockville High School, Frankie was a solid athlete who helped lead his baseball team to the state championship finals against Seymour, the first in school history to reach that level. Baseball remained a central passion: he played Rockville Little League, Babe Ruth, Legion ball, and softball for years. He was a lifelong Yankees fan (idolizing the Mick) and Celtics supporter, plus an enthusiastic UConn men's and women's basketball/soccer fan.
Frank devoted decades to community service through youth sports. He coached Rockville Little League and rec basketball for many years, serving as an officer and umpire-in-chief. He also coached Ellington Junior American Legion in its inaugural 1968 season and owned/coached Theo's in the Jaycee Courant Division. For nearly 30 years, he umpired high school and college baseball via the Manchester and Nutmeg boards, including Rockville High's path to their 2000 state title, and vintage 1860s/1880s baseball.
An avid golfer with multiple holes-in-one, he was a member of Cedar Knob Men's League and enjoyed courses in CT, as well as in his second home in the Myrtle Beach area with cherished friends. He owned many dogs over the years, faithful companions that he loved dearly.
Frank is survived by his children, son, Dan Janton and his wife, Keri of Buford, GA; son, Frank; and daughter, Lauren; his former wife, Pat; his brother, Kevin; his sisters, Barbara, Cheryle, and Kimberly; several grandchildren; cousin, Barbara; and many life-long friends.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his brother, Steven; his sister, Marilyn; his daughter, Beth; his grandchildren, Josh, Caryn, and Max; and Sylvia Mansfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Blessed Sacrament - St. Bernard Church, in Vernon-Rockville, on Saturday, February 28, at 10:00 A.M., with burial to follow immediately at St. Bernard Cemetery, with military honors, Irish bagpipes, and opportunities for friends and relatives to speak.
Frank's legacy endures through his devoted service to his country, his tireless work ethic, his profound love for baseball, and his grandsons, Duke and Beau Janton. He will be deeply missed.
