Doris Hendrix Abarbanell
Lewisville, Texas – Doris Ruby Hendrix Abarbanell, 90, passed away on July 18, 2024, in
Lewisville, Texas.
Doris was born on January 1, 1934, at home in Call, Newton County, Texas, to William Watt Strawther and Ila Opal Spears. She was their youngest child.
Doris Hendrix Abarbanell is survived by her husband, Michael Abarbanell; children Beverly Mihelich, Terri Jarvis, and Mark Hendrix; grandchildren Marcia Mihelich Owens, Dr. Rebecca Rhodes, DNP, Katherine McNett NP, Jennifer Green, Jessica Price, Clara Watson, Daisy Jarvis, Meghann Giesecke, Kyle Hendrix, and Rachel Hendrix, and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Minnie Etta Whitman, William (Bill) Strawther, Ann Young, and her husband, William Walter Hendrix.
Doris Hendrix graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Elementary Education. She worked as a teacher for DoD schools and several Texas school districts, including Livingston, San Marcos, and Luling, until her retirement. She earned a master's in Public School Administration and received certification as a paralegal specializing in wills and estates. Doris continued her studies to become bilingual in Spanish.
After the death of her husband, Bill Hendrix, Doris was known for her missionary work teaching English through using the Bible. She loved spreading the Word of God globally, working with missionaries in Guatemala, Mexico, Ecuador, Cuba, Africa, China, India, and Nepal. When she could not travel, Doris and her husband, Michael Abarbanell, whom she converted, continued helping missionaries by supplying Bibles, songbooks, and other religious materials worldwide.
A memorial service will be held on July 26 at 10 am at the Lewisville Church of Christ. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am. A graveside service will be held at Trout Creek Cemetery on July 30 at 10 am.
