Doris Jean Abbott, 87, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. She was born on August 27, 1937, in Grayson County, Kentucky to Harvey Bell and Lucille Hatfield Bell.
She is proceeded in death by her parents Harvey and Lucille Bell, partner, Donald “Donnie Mac” McDonald, sons Dale Skaggs and Barron Skaggs, sisters, Ivene “Beanie”Hornback, Mary Allen, and her beloved dogs, Maxine and Abby.
Doris attended Clarkson High school, and graduated in 1954. She retired from The American Printing House for the Blind in Louisville, Kentucky after many years of service. Doris was an avid gardener; she took great pride in her flowers. She was an incredible matriarch. Doris loved to cook on holidays for her family, and enjoyed teaching her grandkids all the family recipes -especially the dressing. Her favorite spot was her porch, watching the hummingbirds. Doris lived for her family. She was a best friend to many, a mother, “Mamaw”, sister, aunt and daughter. She loved everyone fiercely; she was an incredibly loved and cherished lady. Doris was a passionate University of Kentucky fan.
Doris is survived by her loving son, Daniel Skaggs Sr. (Amanda), her best friend and sister, Kaye Stewart (Rebus), her grandkids, Daniel Skaggs Jr., Tonya Skaggs, Amanda Skaggs, Whitney Skaggs, Andrea Wyndham (Chris), Ashley Wright (Zachary), Leighana Skaggs, her great grandkids, Dayton, Zack, Emily, Chase, Ava, Kaydence, Jenna, Jackson, Reganne, Nathaniel, Bryce, Brandon Jr., and Abigail. Special family and friends Cathy Blair, Sharon McStoots, Ken and Suzee Higdon, Anna Thrasher, Donna Amon, Sharon Skaggs, Jean Moore and Rose Zinious.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions- Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy) and Saturday from 9:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m. A service celebrating her life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens in Cecilia, Kentucky.
