Doris Bruce Averill

With great sadness the family of Doris Bruce Averill announce her passing on Sept 29th, 2022. She was our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and wonderful friend.
Doris was born in Rossville, Ga on March 18, 1935. After graduating from Chattanooga High School, Doris joined the Unites States Air Force, where she met and married Gilbert Carpenter. In 1974, Doris and her family moved to Sarasota, where she began her career working with the City of Sarasota, where she enjoyed many happy years in the water and building departments.
She is survived by her daughters Sheri Gallagher, Sandra Stafford, and Susan Azadian and husband Andrew; seven grandchildren Jon Sullivan, Heather Butler (Marlon/Kevin), David Gallagher (Amanda), Travis Stafford, Justin Stafford and wife Emily, Sarah Venters and husband Casey, and Stephanie McQueen-Arthur and husband Scott, three step- grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She is also survived by loving family members Michael and Dory McQueen, Steven and Mary Pat Stafford, Nancy Boystak and Jasmin Gallagher. She is preceded in death by her loving parents, Joseph and Maggie Bruce of Chattanooga, Tn, as well as siblings William Wilbanks, Joseph Bruce, Ed Bruce, Mary Oliver, Myra Beagles, Harry Bruce, Betty Jo Bruce, Bill Bruce and 2nd husband Richard Averill.
Mom was the epitome of strength, loyalty, generosity, faith and the matriarch of her family. She was a gift to us, and we will miss her so much. She had a wonderful relationship with our Lord, so we are comforted in the knowledge she has eternal life.
The family will host a celebration of life on Saturday, Nov. 5th, 2022, at 10AM at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, 40 N. Orange Ave., Sarasota.
The family requests any memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Resurrection House, Inc. Sarasota.
When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure. Mom, your love will always be our greatest treasure, and you will forever be in our hearts.
