Doris Bialas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. - Middletown on Feb. 1, 2026.
Doris Kelsall Bialas, 76, of New Hampton, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on January 29, 2026, after a courageous battle with ALS. Doris was a woman of great spirit and humor, whose presence was a gift to her community.

For nearly 60 years, Doris worked side-by-side with her soulmate. Farming wasn't just a job for this pair, it was an all-emcompassing lifestyle. Through Bialas Farms, Doris would say she has made some of the best friends she's ever had.

Doris loved getting her hands dirty, tending the plants, and sharing the harvest with her customers. She took every opportunity to share her knowledge about farming with anyone willing to learn. Her efforts to spread awareness about the importance of agriculture were an integral part of her legacy.

Those who knew Doris will remember her for her funny anecdotes and jokes, her spirited conversations, and her friendly demeanor. She had the rare ability to light up a room with her presence and to make anyone feel welcome and valued. Her laughter was infectious, her advice was sought after, and her generosity was boundless.

Doris moved through life with an inquisitive spirit and the desire to share. She had a great appreciation for nature and found peace in birdwatching at her home. Doris spent decades researching genealogy and occasionally enjoyed a noisy slot machine.

Doris lived a life that was rich in experiences and abundant in love. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. As we say goodbye to this remarkable woman, we celebrate the life she lived and the impact she made. Doris's memory will be cherished, and her stories will be told for generations to come.

Doris leaves behind her greatest treasures: her husband of 55 years, Frank (Sonny), her daughter, Catherine (Kasha), and her grandson, Thomas Focarile. She is survived by her son Jeffery and his daughters, Maya and Claire, siblings Helen, Pam (Art), Buddy/Norman (Julia), and Richard, and numerous extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Doris, her sister Geraldine, and her lifelong best friend, Tricia.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 7, from 1 pm until 5 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY.
