Obituary
On April 6, 2023, someone left the door to Heaven open and one of God's special Angels returned Home after being away for some 86 years.
Doris "Gayle" Ostwalt Brigmon, formerly of Belmont, NC, served her time away raising a family of her 3 children with her husband, Harold Archie Brigmon, while always serving her Lord and Savior. She was a gift to the late Collier Melzie Ostwalt Jr. and Mildred Allen Ostwalt on August 2, 1936. In addition to her parents, Gayle was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Archie Brigmon, and one brother, Ronald Lee Ostwalt.
Special memories shared by Kyle Brigmon; Sister Gayle was a great mother in every way I can mention. I owe her so much. Mama was the first to tell me about Jesus. I was seated beside her when I decided to give my heart to Jesus at 9 years old. I remember asking her, "Mama, what do you tell the preacher when you go down there?"
As children she dragged us places we didn't want to go. Every time the church doors were open she dragged us to church! Even when the church doors were closed she dragged us to church to practice church plays, choir practice, special events, etc.
She spent many hours teaching me how to sing around the piano trying to help me and others learn our parts. She traveled with "The Faith Boys" and me, playing the piano way back in the seventies. She also played piano and taught Sunday School for a number of churches. How could it all ever be repaid?
She was a hard-working lady. She was always into something at the church plus working full-time jobs.
Always encouraging, it was, "Boy you did a good job!", no matter how bad I was. I know the Lord will forgive her for those lies. I know she fasted 40 days and nights at least three times. It was not until much later that the Lord revealed to me that she was fasting for my two sisters and me. A giving person. If it was within her power to do it she would gladly do it for you. Her greeting to me as far back as I can remember has always been, "Hey boy!" I already miss hearing those words but one day in a place far away I'll hear those words again! I guess I could keep writing forever but let me end with this, I Love "You" Mama!. God Bless You Sister Gayle!
Gayle is survived by her three children, Kyle Brigmon (Teresa) of Lancaster, SC, Gina Brigmon Lankford (Jonathan) of Union Mills, NC, and Karla Brigmon of Union Mills, NC, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family members.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Thursday, April 13, 2023 at New Covenant Church of God, 120 Top Avenue, Ellenboro, NC 28040. The memorial service will be at New Covenant Church of God at 3:00 PM, Thursday, April 13, 2023, with Reverend Jonathan Lankford officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to New Covenant Church of God, P.O. Box 66 Ellenboro, NC 28040. Interment with be private at a later date. McMahan's Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
