Doris Tayloe Chamblee

AHOSKIE, NORTH CAROLINA - Doris Tayloe Chamblee, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, surrounded by her family in Ahoskie, Hertford County, North Carolina. Born on April 22, 1926, in Ahoskie, she lived a fulfilling life that spanned 98 years.
Doris dedicated much of her professional life to the banking industry, where she worked as an office assistant. Known for her meticulous nature and unwavering dedication, she was a respected colleague and a cherished friend to many. Her commitment extended beyond her profession; she was a longtime member of Hickory Chapel Church, where she served diligently as treasurer and graced the church choir with her voice.
Above all else, Doris cherished her family. She delighted in preparing Sunday lunch for them, creating a tradition filled with warmth and love. Her passion for cooking was evident, as was her affection for the ocean, which she found both peaceful and inspiring. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, nurturing strong bonds that will endure in her absence. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy of love, compassion, and devotion will forever be etched in the hearts of her family and friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph James Chamblee, and her parents, Retta Griffin Tayloe and Will Tayloe, and her infant brother, Beecher Tayloe. She leaves behind a devoted family to honor her legacy: her daughter Jean Gritz of Ahoskie; her son David Chamblee and his wife Sonya of Cofield; her grandson Will Chamblee and his wife Landis of Ahoskie; her granddaughter Courtney Adkins and her husband Mike of Winterville; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Madison and James Adkins of Winterville, and Mac and Helen Chamblee of Ahoskie.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 6 -7:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC and other times at the home. A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Sunday January, 26, 2025 at 2 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service with Rev Jim Skipper officiating. Burial will be Monday, January 27, 2025 at 10 am at Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC.
