Doris Jean Comerford

Doris Jean Comerford, 95, of Huntingdon, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Penn Highlands Huntingdon, after an unexpected illness. Born February 3, 1930 in Naperville, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Emery D. and Leona (Brower) Eichelberger. She was formerly united in marriage to John R. Comerford, Sr., who preceded her in death. Her second union in marriage was to Edward Hults, who also preceded her in death.

She is survived by three children, John R. Comerford, Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia, David M. Comerford and wife, Beth, of San Crisanto, Yucatán, Mexico, and Jean E. Corbin and husband, Larry, of Huntingdon; two step-children, Rick Hults and wife, Karen, of North Carolina, and Cheryl Hults-Schmit and husband, Scott, of Maryland; 12 grandchildren, Zachary, Valarie, Lucas, Lexis, Iesha, Daisha, Wyatt, Giovanni, Sean, Erin, Courtney, and Justin; and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Richard E. Eichelberger and wife, Roseann, of Smithfield, Virginia.

Mrs. Comerford was an active member of the Stone Church of the Brethren, Huntingdon, where she assisted with composing the monthly newsletter, enjoyed knitting shawls for the prayer shawl ministry, and was a member of the embroidery guild.

She attended Juniata College, Huntingdon, and received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Penn State (PSU).

In 1965, Mrs. Comerford became employed as an elementary school teacher at Juniata Valley Elementary School, Alexandria, and retired in 1995 after 30 years of service.

She was a skilled quilter who loved crafting beautiful quilts for her family. She also enjoyed baking, doing puzzles, and feeding the birds.

At the request of Mrs. Comerford all services will be handled privately.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in remembrance of Doris J.Comerford may be made to the Stone Church of the Brethren, 1623 Moore St., Huntingdon, PA 16652.
