Doris M. Coughlin

Doris (Musser) Coughlin, 96, of Enfield, died Monday, December 29, 2025, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on September 23, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Ira J. Musser and Mabel (Flenniken) Musser.

She moved with her husband Robert from Euclid, Ohio, to Enfield, Connecticut, in 1958. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1971 (Alpha Chi 3, 4 )and her Master's degree in Education in 1974, both from American International College, and her Administration Certificate from Springfield College in 1976. She taught English at Kosciuszko Junior High from 1971 to 1976, and at Enfield High School from 1976 to 1992, when she retired. She was active in local politics and served on the Enfield Democratic Town Committee for 10 years.

After she retired, she became an artist, working mainly in watercolor, oil, and collages. She very much enjoyed her travels through 49 states and Europe. She was an active member of several local art associations, including the Tobacco Valley Art Association. She was elected to become a member of the Academic Artist Association, the Connecticut Watercolor Society, and Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts.

She was predeceased by her husband of 62 and a half years, Robert Coughlin, as well as two sons, Robert James Coughlin and James Michael Coughlin; her sister, Ellen Hollenbeck; and her daughter-in-law, Debbie Coughlin.

She is survived by a daughter, Jayne Tuller, and her husband Oliver of West Simsbury, and three sons, Thomas Coughlin of Enfield, William Coughlin and his wife Kelley of Agawam, MA, and Kevin Coughlin of Springfield; eleven grandchildren, Nichole Ayotte, Jamie Ayotte, Stefanie Coughlin, Thomas Coughlin Jr., Felicia Coughlin, Tyler Coughlin, Justin Tuller, Joseph Tuller, Mary Tuller, Stephanie Hendrix, and Amanda Metras, and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to acknowledge Patricia Murphy who provided her compassionate home care for Doris over the past year.

Her family will receive friends on Monday, January 5, 2026 from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield. Burial will be held privately at a later date. For online condolences, please visit www.leetestevens.com.
