Doris Davis, a lifelong resident of Tyler, Texas, passed away surrounded by her loving family. Born in Grand Saline, Texas, Doris made Tyler her home for all her life, touching countless hearts with her warmth, kindness, and generosity.
Doris dedicated much of her adulthood to hard work and service. She spent many years working at D's Coffee Shop, where her familiar smile and welcoming spirit became a comfort to regulars and new visitors alike. She later served for many years as the bar manager at VFW Post 7211, a place where she built lasting friendships and contributed greatly to the community she cherished. A proud and active member of VFW 7211, she also served as former president of the VFW 7211 Ladies Auxiliary.
She had an undeniable talent for cooking and loved preparing meals for those she cared for. In her younger years, Doris was also known for her creativity-sewing matching outfits for herself and her daughter, a memory treasured by her family.
Doris shared 37 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Melvin Davis, in Tyler, where together they built a strong and loving family. She is survived by her children: daughter Susan Deyon Soto of Tyler; daughters Veronica Davis and Dixie Davis of Louisiana; sons James Davis of Washington, Alex Davis, and David Davis of Tyler. Her legacy continues through her many grandchildren: Amber Silva of Tyler; Danielle Lazurus; Baileigh Davis; Chloe Deville; Aiden Davis of Louisiana; Liam Davis; Riley Davis; Jovetta Davis; Collin Davis of Washington; and Stormie Smith of Bullard. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Esperanza "Espe" Escalante, Alyssa Rodriguez, Diego Silva Jr., and Deon Isaah Silva. Doris adored her family deeply and was proud of each generation that followed her. She also leaves behind cherished relatives, including her niece LaManda McCoy Moncreif and great-nieces and nephews Kendall Durham, Dillon Tarver, Bryanna Russell, Autumn Russell, Tristan Brewton, and Kason King.
Doris is preceded in death by her beloved son Johnny Smith; her sister Dolores "Dee" Tippet; granddaughter Erika Smith; and niece Bobbie Dee McCoy Simpson.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her memory will forever remain a blessing. A celebration of life will be held in the upcoming future and details will be updated here.
