Doris Weatherby Engle passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 14, 2025, at the age of 92. Born in Shreveport, Louisiana on February 3, 1933, she was the third of four daughters of J. Joseph Weatherby and Ella Mae Phillips Weatherby.
Mrs. Engle was preceded in death by her parents, John Joseph Weatherby and Ella Mae Phillips Weatherby; her sisters, Marion Craig and Mary Francis Shaw; her beloved husband, Almer Cabler Engle, Jr.; and granddaughters Sarah Marie Engle and Rachel Elizabeth Engle.
She is survived by her sister, Jean Craig (Denver) and her children: Almer Cabler Engle III and his wife Linda Fischer, Richard Weatherby Engle, Phillip John Engle, and Mary Lee Engle. She is also fondly remembered by her grandchildren: Anna Christine Engle Floyd and her husband Jack Floyd; Andrew Christopher Engle; Nicole Engle; and Dylan Engle, along with their mother, Cecilie Mann Engle, Cristiana Fryberger; Juliana Fischer-Girau and her husband Emilio Girau.
Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Chloe Raine Christina Floyd, and Jason Orion Floyd, Julian Fryberger, Addi Grace Fryberger, Shaun Fischer, Elias Girau, Evan Girau, Emily Girau.
Doris also deeply loved her many nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews from both sides of the family.
A remembrance service will be held on Tuesday, September 23rd at 1:30PM (please arrive 10-15 minutes early), at Houston First Baptist Church (7401 Katy Freeway) in the chapel. Handicap-accessible and standard parking are available in the West Lot, with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall, both located on the northwest side.
