Doris Lee Lancaster, age 88, of Frostburg MD, passed away on March 18, 2025, at Egle Nursing and Rehab, which had been her home for the last 5 years.
Born May 21, 1936, in Woodland MD, she was the daughter of the late Alexandar "Pop" and Thelma Elizabeth (Edwards) Nicol of Laurel MD, originally of Woodland MD. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Emory D Lancaster, a son Russell A Lancaster, a granddaughter, Dayne Renee Lancaster, and brothers, Frank Nicol and George Nicol.
She is survived by her son Dayne L. Lancaster and wife Beverly of Frostburg, daughters Lennie L Stevens and husband Wayne of Eckhart and Perri L Taylor and husband Jim of Midlothian. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren Jaci Peacock and husband Bobby, Russell Lancaster and wife Becky, Laura Kyer and husband Matt, Jared Lancaster and wife Heather, Nathan Stevens and wife Ashley, Brandon Stevens and wife Mindi, Jimmy Taylor and wife Amber, and Elizabeth Raley and husband Eric. Doris was affectionately known as Grandma to her grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Thelma (Nook) Cesnick and three brothers, Robert Nicol, William Nicol and Roger Nicol.
Doris was member of Zion United Church of Christ where she had taught Sunday School while her children were young, and later attended Trinity Assembly of God, with her daughters. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and the Beall High School Alumni.
Doris only worked outside the home part-time as a waitress at the Diamond Restaurant where the Diamond family quickly became her friends. Only later after her children were grown did she work full time at Heck's department Store in Frostburg. Being such a giving and loving person, Doris decided it was once again time to stay home so she could watch the grandchildren, and even a couple of the great grandchildren.
Doris was cremated according to her wishes. A memorial service will be held at the Trinity Assembly of God Church in Midlothian MD on Saturday March 22, 2025, at 12:00 with a meal to follow. Friends will be received one hour prior from 11 am to noon. Her son-in-law Jim Taylor will officiate the service, Durst Funeral Home will oversee her arrangements.
The family wants to thank the staff of Egle Nursing and Rehab, where every single employee was kind and caring and treated our Mom with the upmost love and respect. Our prayer at the beginning of this journey was that Mom would be loved as much as we loved her and at Egle she was.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the Frostburg Fire Department.
