Spencer - Doris M Leao, 86, of Spencer died on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Doris was born on February 21, 1938 to William Tallman and Elizabeth (Towne) Tallman of Warren.
She grew up in Warren, lived in Brookfield for a short time, and then in Spencer for the majority of her adult life. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Gordon G. Leao in 2022; and by her siblings, Edward Tallman, Ida Cote, Bertha Mayo, Arthur Tallman, Elsie Cote, and Mildred Miner. She leaves two daughters, Deborah Spink of Spencer and Dawn King of Gilbertville; a grandson, Jonathan Spink of Worcester; a granddaughter, Allison (King) Hartshorn, her husband Kyle Hartshorn, and a great-grandson Jacoby, all of Gilbertville. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Doris worked for Millbrook Distributors, in the cosmetics department of the Spencer Fair Department Store for many, many years.
She attended the Spencer Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for several years before becoming a member of the First Congregational Church of Spencer, where she served on the flower committee.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and her family was always of primary importance to her. She was an avid reader, had a flair for decorating, and greatly enjoyed her home.
Her daughters would like to thank her friend and neighbor, Barbara Mitchell for her kindness and helpfulness, and the nursing staff at Harrington Hospital for the wonderful care they gave her while she was there.
She was greatly loved by her family and will be greatly missed. The family plans to hold a graveside service for Doris at their future convenience. Varnum Funeral Home, 43 East Main Street in West Brookfield is assisting her family with arrangements.
