Our hearts are heavy as we say goodbye to our beloved Doris López (Fernandez), who passed away peacefully at the age of 73 in Houston, Texas on March 26, 2025. Doris will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Born on February 1st, 1952, in Brooklyn, New York, to Jose Ramon Fernández and Rosa Fernández, Puerto Rican immigrants to the United States. Doris lit up every room with her extremely social and vibrant personality. On November 30th, 1974, she married the love of her life, Jose Dimas López, and together they shared a life filled with laughter, dance, and unwavering affection.
Doris was a joy to be with. Her passion for salsa dancing often had everyone on their feet, embracing the rhythm and joy she so effortlessly brought into the world. In quieter moments, she loved doing word search puzzles, enjoying the simple pleasure they brought her.
Always taking pride in having her nails look amazing, Doris's attention to the little things made those around her feel special. For 18 years, she devoted herself as a student nutrition aide, nourishing young minds not just with meals but with her warmth and kindness.
She is survived by her husband Jose Dimas López. Her daughter Ana Jennifer Cohen (López) and husband David Solomon Cohen. Her two sons Jose Dimas López and wife Adriana López, John Michael López and spouse Daniel Cato. Her four grandchildren Natalia López, Mateo López, Valentina Leah Cohen, and Gavin Zachary Cohen.
She was preceded in death by parents Jose Ramon Fernández and Rosa Fernández.
As we remember Doris, let us celebrate the beautiful moments she gave us in life filled with dance, joy, and the warmth of her unforgettable presence.
As we come together to honor her memory, we kindly request that, if you were considering sending flowers, you please make a contribution towards her funeral expenses instead at https://gofund.me/cbda67c8.
