Doris Marie Chapin Cooper, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024. Born on January 17, 1939, in Gulfport, Mississippi, she lived a fulfilling life of 85 years surrounded by family and friends.
Doris was a devoted wife to her husband, John T. Cooper, with whom she shared 63 cherished years. A dedicated mother, she leaves behind her children: Jeff Cooper and his wife Tina, Lisa Cooper Shaw and her husband Craig, and Laura Cooper Olson and her husband Rick. Her deep love for her family extended to her grandchildren: Courtney Cooper Kopsie (Josh), Christine Cooper Callaway (Seth), Tony Yaacoub, Erin Shaw Leake (Mike), Brandon Cooper Shaw, Connor McLeod Shaw, Jacob Thomas Fisher (Leah), and James Cooper Fisher. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Macklin Callaway, Everleigh Callaway, Shepherd Callaway, Kennedy Kopsie, Cooper Kopsie, Caden Kopsie, David Michael (Tripp) Leake, Jace Fisher, John Cooper Fisher, Kelsey Caldwell, and Nicholas Caldwell.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Doris Chapin, as well as her brothers, Richard Chapin and Charles Chapin. She is survived by her loving sister-in-law, Martha Chapin, and a host of extended family and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
After devoting her early years to raising her beloved children, Doris embarked on her career as a Secretary at First Union Bank, where she was known for her dedication and professionalism. Outside of work, she was an avid card player who enjoyed the camaraderie and challenge of the game of bridge. A passionate Georgia Tech sports fan, she could often be found cheering on her favorite team. Doris had a special place in her heart for the beach, finding peace and joy in the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sun.
Her greatest joy, however, was her family. Doris's love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was boundless, and her legacy of love and kindness will continue through them.
Services to honor Doris's life will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 11 o'clock at St. Matthew Church, 215 Kirkley Rd, Tyrone, GA 30290, where a funeral mass will be celebrated. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Judes Children Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/promotion/impact-giving-pm.html?sc_dcm=58700008005633531&sc_cid=kwp&sc_cat=b&&&&&ds_rl=1285465&ds_rl=1291300&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAi_G5BhDXARIsAN5SX7reGqH86Gy1VDsBFCf_ecmPJX-c3HyU2VG15nT_6XDxGC8EWwwL-7YaArDQEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds.
