Doris Irene Martin

Doris Irene Martin, of OKC, met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 14, 2025. She was born to Ida Rebecca (Sade) and Perry Leonard Jones, on September 17, 1931, in Lovell, OK-the eighth child in a family of nine children. Doris was just three months old when her family moved to Missouri in search of the "better life" and when that wasn't found after five years of striving, they all returned to Lovell and the many family members that remained there. After graduating from Crescent High School, she left home for Lam Te School of Cosmetology in Oklahoma City where she excelled at her studies and passed her board certification becoming a licensed beauty operator, proudly specializing in the short neckline haircut before the new year of 1950. Her five month career as a beauty operator was only a little longer than her whirlwind romance that culminated with a July 8, 1950 wedding to John William (Bill) Martin. She was soon raising three children and took great joy in sewing clothes for them. When those three little ones were all busy with school, she went to work at Carter Park Baptist Church Daycare and was promoted to Director after just two years. After Bill retired from Tinker Air Force Base they took time to travel in their RV fishing and staying connected with family. She was committed to living her life as a testimony to the love and grace of Jesus and did her best to love others as he loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings and her beloved husband, Bill. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Tompkins and her husband Michael; son Robert, and son Jim and his wife Sherrie, five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Visitation will be held at John Ireland and Son Funeral Home in Moore on Wednesday, June 18, 2025 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, with the funeral service in the chapel at Arlington Memorial Gardens 3400 N. Midwest Blvd, Oklahoma City on Thursday, June 19 at 11:00am.
