Obituary published on Legacy.com by Romero Funeral Home on Feb. 3, 2023.
Remembering the life and legacy of Doris Dolores Martinez, age 55, a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, teacher, and resident of
Los Lunas, NM, was called to Heaven on Thursday, January 26, 2023. Services will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Our lady of Guadalupe Mission Church beginning with a Visitation at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Rosary at 10:00 a.m., and a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Cemetery. Born on February 28, 1967, in
Belen, NM, she was the oldest of three children. Doris had many passions in life, but her most cherished were being a mother, nana, and godmother. She was a devoted daughter who cared for her father and mother while also raising her son, Noah. Doris was a loving mother, and her most precious accomplishment was watching him grow into a loving husband and father. Her mom was her best friend and confidante, and they shared the most special bond. Doris strived to be like her mother through unending kindness, love, compassion for others, and her faith in the Lord. She also shared a close relationship with her father, having always been a daddy's girl, he taught her strength, loyalty, a good work ethic, and the meaning of family. Both of Doris' parents heavily impacted her life, and they are now reunited together in Heaven. She was the older sister of two amazing siblings. Doris' brother Jimmy, whom she called her "rock", and whom she helped as much as he helped her, could talk for hours and hours on end. Her sister Brenda, whom she shared a bedroom with growing up, continued a sisterly bond for the rest of their lives. Doris enjoyed teaching, shopping, listening to Elvis, and going out to eat, but most of all, she treasured her faith in the Lord and spending time with her family, which meant everything to her. Doris loved to spoil her granddaughter, Sofia, and her niece, Mary Grace as often as she could. She loved them dearly and the bond she created with her girls will be everlasting. Doris' kindness never went unnoticed. She always put others above herself and did everything she could just to put a smile on someone's face. Doris was a well-loved member of her community who taught third grade for over sixteen years. Many students can recall fond memories of "Ms. Martinez". She attended college at the University of New Mexico, where she received her Master of Arts in Language Literacy and Sociocultural Studies. Doris has been a third-grade teacher for Los Lunas Public Schools since 2006. She inspired many students to become caring, well-mannered, and remarkable individuals inside and outside the classroom. Doris loved being a teacher and sharing her life experiences with her students. She is preceded in death by her parents, Santiago Jimmy and Mary Lou Chavez Martinez. Doris is survived by her loving son, Noah Martinez (Paige); granddaughter, Sofia Lourdes; siblings, Jimmy Martinez and Brenda Papponi (Louis); goddaughter, Mary Grace; nephews, Louis, Myles, and Alexander; aunties, Josie and Dolores; favorite uncle, Nick Martinez; cousins, Bertha and Mary Helen; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and an abundance of friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. "Thank you, Mama. God Bless you, we love you." Please sign Doris' online tribute at www.romerofuneralhomenm.com Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main St.,
