Doris Ann McGhee was born on September 27, 1964, in Rock Island, Illinois, the beloved daughter of Powell and Janie (Young) McGhee. She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1982 and later earned her CDL from Scott County Community College. Doris was united in marriage to Dennis Mark Phillips on July 5, 1988, in Dallas, Texas. He preceded her in death on October 13, 2021.
Doris spent more than 20 years as a dedicated truck driver, traveling countless miles and embracing the independence of the open road. A woman of strong faith, she was a devoted Jehovah’s Witness, living her life guided by her beliefs and love for others.
Doris’s heart belonged to her family. Her loving and caring spirit could light up any room, and she was always ready with a warm smile or a good joke. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen and loved; especially her adored nieces and nephews, who held a very special place in her heart. She delighted in spoiling them and cherished every moment spent together, as time with family was her greatest joy.
Doris is survived by her beloved mother, Janie McGhee; father, Powell McGhee; brothers, Powell McGhee Jr. and Demares Hamilton; and lots of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; aunt, Minnie Carter; and uncles, Napolean Young and Robert Young.
